The Dream of a Lifetime

Monday 17 October, 2016 will forever be a moment in time that changed the life of Mr P and his family from Baulkham Hills, NSW.
As the lucky winner of Lottery 177, Mr P won a luxury waterfront home on the Sunshine Coast and $35,000 Gold Bullion bringing his total first prize to a cool $1,033,540!
Winner 177 blogMr P and his family recently sat down with Surf Life Saving Lotteries to share what happened on that amazing day.

“My Son-in-Law and I were working on a boat for a planned holiday next year. My home phone kept ringing several times and I was so focused on the job at hand, I thought just leave a message. 10:00pm that night I decided to check my email and saw a note from Surf Life Saving Lotteries. The email advised that I was the winner of Lottery 177! At first, I was sceptical but the email knew too much about my circumstances and tears of joys started to swell. I asked my son-in-law to visit the website and under results there it was – Lottery 177 Winner Mr P from Baulkham Hills. Would you believe it still didn’t seem real and it was only when an official representative spoke with me on Saturday morning that all my emotions really came out, including reactions from my family.

Mr P and his family will be celebrating Christmas in style at the home and plan to use it as a holiday getaway.

“I bought a ticket because I believe the cause is tremendous. When I was a kid I really wanted to be involved in the movement but lived in a country area and transportation was difficult. I believe everybody should be given the opportunity to learn how to swim and in addition understand beach safety.  My advice for other supporters out there hoping to win a prize home is ‘have a go’. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that we would be blessed with this remarkable gift.”

Congratulations Mr P! We wish you and your family a bright future and sincere thanks for your support.

First Time Buyer Wins Big

What’s it like to win a prize home lottery?

176 Winner v2Just ask South Australian residents Andrew* and Carol* who were our lucky first prize winners of a $1,022,399 Gold Coast waterfront home.

Carol bought the ticket in the prize home online because she liked the look of it – unbeknown to Andrew. So, when Surf Life Saving Lotteries eventually got hold of Andrew he was completely stunned. He didn’t even know they had tickets until he missed the call from the Surf Life Saving Lotteries team!

“I was outside when I heard my mobile ring but I let it go to voicemail. I saw it was a 07 number but as I don’t know anyone in Queensland, I wasn’t too bothered and left it for a while. While I finally asked my partner to check my phone messages, she said there was a message from Surf Life Saving Lotteries. We started to think we must have won something … and when my wife told me she had bought tickets in one of their prize homes and it was drawn today, I began to get really excited, but at that stage we didn’t know what the prize was going to be,” Andrew said.

“We called the number back, left a message and waited with baited breath for my phone to ring again … I was definitely not going to miss the call back.

“When my phone rang again and the lady on the other end advised we had won a million dollar home on the Gold Coast plus a new Audi car valued at $60,000, I was stunned.  Disbelief and shock began to creep in … before this I couldn’t even win a pub raffle let alone two life changing prizes. This was the first time we supported Surf Life Saving Lotteries but we have the utmost respect for what they do – they are incredibly brave and the work they do is certainly worthwhile.”

The lovely couple are still planning what to do with their beautiful new home but have since joined the Champions Club to continue their support.

Congratulations Andrew and Carol, we hope you enjoy your new life.

Nice Guys Don’t Always Finish Last!

Noosa nice guy Mr M didn’t expect to win first prize in Lottery 175.

But, the Noosa resident has now taken possession of a stunning Pacific Harbour home and furniture package at Bribie Island along with bonus Gold Bullion bringing his prize total to $966,540.

“People like me aren’t supposed to win anything,” he said.

Mr M did not return any of the initial calls from the Surf Life Saving team on the day of his win and a whole weekend went by before we could contact him. When we did reach him, it took around five minutes on the telephone with our Head of Foundation Steve Francia to convince him he had won the major prize.

“I have always bought Surf Life Saving lottery tickets because lifesavers do a great job.

“But when I got the call, I thought it was someone trying to sell me more tickets, so I didn’t even bother to listen to the message. I’m still pretty embarrassed about my initial reaction.

“Like most people I suppose, you don’t really have the expectation you’ll win – but this time I did.”

Mr M could not initially find the winning ticket and thought perhaps we had made a mistake.

“I called Steve and said, I can’t see that ticket number in my tickets – are you sure you haven’t made some kind of mistake,” he laughed when recalling the telephone call.

However, once it was explained to him that he would have received two allocations of tickets as a Champions Club member, he went away and checked his second allocation of tickets – and sure enough there was number 4965791. He could finally allow himself to believe it could be true.

“I have shared the news with family and friends and everyone is delighted for us – in fact they are all excited that they know a prize home winner!” he said.

When asked about his future plans Mr M said, “We’ll sell the house because we have only recently settled on the Noosa property, but that will give us some breathing room and we can do some travel, relax and decide what to do for the next phase of our life. After running a seven day a week business for several years, it would be great to slow things down a bit and get our weekends back, so finding a five day business would be ideal.”
