Retirement is starting to look a whole lot brighter for Mr H… The former seaman couldn’t believe his luck when he received the call of a lifetime from Surf Life Saving Lotteries.

Mr H was drawn as the first prize winner in Lottery 180 on 28 April 2017, making him the proud new owner of a stunning single storey home at Pacific Harbour, Bribie Island.

“It still feels like a dream! I have to pinch myself,” said Mr H.

As the winning ticket was one of 70 Mr H purchased in a $50 book of tickets, he also took home a bonus prize of $50,000 cashable Gold Bullion, bringing his total prize pool to $1,051,399!

“I never expected to win anything. I feel so lucky.”

The humble pensioner couldn’t believe the scale of the prize he’d won.

“It’s a huge house, it’s like a castle,” he said as he explored the breathtaking golf course-front home, complete with a beautiful furniture and design package valued at $131,399, for the very first time.

Mr H said it was hard to comprehend winning such an incredible gift. He explained that the win has given him an indescribable sense of relief.

“I think I will sell the house and invest the money,” he said.

“Either way, I now know I have a secure future ahead of me and I can enjoy the rest of my life.”

When Gabriele stepped through the front door of her brand new, waterfront home for the first time she struggled to fight back tears.

Like many of us, the mother of three had always dreamed of owning the perfect home but she never thought that day would actually come.

“When I got the phone call from Surf Life Saving Lotteries I didn’t believe it,” she said.

“I was just speechless. I thought no, this couldn’t happen to me!”

Gabriele had won first prize in Lottery 179 – a luxurious Sunshine Coast home plus $50,000 Gold Bullion, valued at a total of $1,051,399.

“You never expect to get a phone call like that!

“Honestly, I had forgotten about the ticket. I’d bought a $50 book of 70 tickets on the closing day of the draw. I thought, you know what, I’ll just have a go.”

Perhaps it was fate, or maybe it was just a lucky break, but the windfall couldn’t have come at a better time for Gabriele.

“I’d been worrying about my future. Only an hour before I got the call I said to my partner, ‘I’m going to be renting in retirement.’

“But now, I can look around this beautiful house and think I own all of this! It’s not a holiday or a rental, it’s my home…

“And the whole house is so beautiful. It’s so open and relaxing, I love it!

“It’s just so nice not to have to worry about money.

“For the first time in my life I’ve woken up and not thought, ‘I’ve got this bill to pay or that bill to pay, what am I going to do?’

“It’s definitely changed my life!

“If someone was thinking about buying a ticket I’d encourage them to do it. It’s such a worthy cause. And you may not win this time or the next time, but there could be another time down the track where you do win.”

Grandparents strike it big

Mrs M was at home with her daughter and granddaughter when she received the phone call that would change her family’s future forever.

December 16, 2016 had been just another day at work for Mrs M, but as she headed home, the aged care worker noticed she’d missed a number of calls that day. It wasn’t until her home phone began to ring that her curiosity really started to spike.

Mrs M was the lucky winner of Lottery 178 – a stunning Brisbane city apartment, designed and furnished to the value of $123,625 PLUS $200,000 Gold Bullion, valued at a total of $1,069,625.

“All I could say was oh my god, I couldn’t believe it!” said Mrs M.

“My daughter came rushing over and asked, ‘what’s going on?’ I said, ‘I’ve won…’

“I was saying the words out loud, but all I could think was this is surreal. I don’t win things like this, other people do… But I did.”

Mrs M has often supported Surf Life Saving in the past but as a grandmother to an active one-year-old she decided to spend a little more than usual in the Christmas lottery draw.

“Our granddaughter loves the water. I thought she is going to be visiting the beach, I need to support them [Surf Life Saving] even more now.”

The winning ticket was one of 70 Mrs M had purchased for $50 at a local shopping centre. The grandmother was very surprised to discover her ticket purchase also qualified her for an additional $50,000 Gold Bullion, the bonus prize bringing her total prize value to more than $1.1 million.

“When Surf Life Saving Lotteries ran through all the prize details, I thought when is she going to stop? I knew I’d only spent $50. It was unbelievable.”

Mrs M said winning the prize home AND $250,000 in cashable Gold Bullion had been an incredible feeling.

“We’ve paid stuff off, I’ve bought a new car, and we’re going on holidays. We’ve always loved travelling,” she said.

Mrs M and her husband have decided to take a well-deserved break from work and are now planning the holiday of a lifetime!

But it’s not only Mr and Mrs M who have benefitted from the win.

“We’ve been able to help our son and daughter as well.

“Eventually, we will sell the prize home and give the children some money to put towards a deposit for their own homes. They both know they’ve got a big deposit for a house now.

“And we know our granddaughter will have a bright future ahead of her. She was really the reason I bought the ticket, for her future… We’re very grateful.”

The Dream of a Lifetime

Monday 17 October, 2016 will forever be a moment in time that changed the life of Mr P and his family from Baulkham Hills, NSW.
As the lucky winner of Lottery 177, Mr P won a luxury waterfront home on the Sunshine Coast and $35,000 Gold Bullion bringing his total first prize to a cool $1,033,540!
Winner 177 blogMr P and his family recently sat down with Surf Life Saving Lotteries to share what happened on that amazing day.

“My Son-in-Law and I were working on a boat for a planned holiday next year. My home phone kept ringing several times and I was so focused on the job at hand, I thought just leave a message. 10:00pm that night I decided to check my email and saw a note from Surf Life Saving Lotteries. The email advised that I was the winner of Lottery 177! At first, I was sceptical but the email knew too much about my circumstances and tears of joys started to swell. I asked my son-in-law to visit the website and under results there it was – Lottery 177 Winner Mr P from Baulkham Hills. Would you believe it still didn’t seem real and it was only when an official representative spoke with me on Saturday morning that all my emotions really came out, including reactions from my family.

Mr P and his family will be celebrating Christmas in style at the home and plan to use it as a holiday getaway.

“I bought a ticket because I believe the cause is tremendous. When I was a kid I really wanted to be involved in the movement but lived in a country area and transportation was difficult. I believe everybody should be given the opportunity to learn how to swim and in addition understand beach safety.  My advice for other supporters out there hoping to win a prize home is ‘have a go’. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that we would be blessed with this remarkable gift.”

Congratulations Mr P! We wish you and your family a bright future and sincere thanks for your support.

Nice Guys Don’t Always Finish Last!

Noosa nice guy Mr M didn’t expect to win first prize in Lottery 175.

But, the Noosa resident has now taken possession of a stunning Pacific Harbour home and furniture package at Bribie Island along with bonus Gold Bullion bringing his prize total to $966,540.

“People like me aren’t supposed to win anything,” he said.

Mr M did not return any of the initial calls from the Surf Life Saving team on the day of his win and a whole weekend went by before we could contact him. When we did reach him, it took around five minutes on the telephone with our Head of Foundation Steve Francia to convince him he had won the major prize.

“I have always bought Surf Life Saving lottery tickets because lifesavers do a great job.

“But when I got the call, I thought it was someone trying to sell me more tickets, so I didn’t even bother to listen to the message. I’m still pretty embarrassed about my initial reaction.

“Like most people I suppose, you don’t really have the expectation you’ll win – but this time I did.”

Mr M could not initially find the winning ticket and thought perhaps we had made a mistake.

“I called Steve and said, I can’t see that ticket number in my tickets – are you sure you haven’t made some kind of mistake,” he laughed when recalling the telephone call.

However, once it was explained to him that he would have received two allocations of tickets as a Champions Club member, he went away and checked his second allocation of tickets – and sure enough there was number 4965791. He could finally allow himself to believe it could be true.

“I have shared the news with family and friends and everyone is delighted for us – in fact they are all excited that they know a prize home winner!” he said.

When asked about his future plans Mr M said, “We’ll sell the house because we have only recently settled on the Noosa property, but that will give us some breathing room and we can do some travel, relax and decide what to do for the next phase of our life. After running a seven day a week business for several years, it would be great to slow things down a bit and get our weekends back, so finding a five day business would be ideal.”

Lottery 174, Hope Island Winner Story

We have happily supported Surf Life Saving for a number of years because it’s such a worthwhile cause – Surf Life Savers save lives and you can’t get more worthwhile than that.

Like many people who purchase tickets in the prize home lottery, I didn’t really expect to win … of course you always secretly hope, but at the end of the day I just considered my Champions Club membership was another way of providing funds to support a good cause.

When I first received the call from Surf Life Saving, I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. To be honest you don’t expect  when you are going about your normal business on a day like any other that you are going to receive a call like that. And as the call progressed, you start to wonder whether it was some kind of hoax or scam, but what convinced me was the lady who called me knew too much about my Champions Club membership and personal details for it not to be legitimate.

I guess I really only believed it was real and  this incredible thing had happened to us when I got home and read the email that Surf Life Saving had sent me confirming all the details of my win.

It was after reading that confirmation that I decided to share the news with my family – but I was so overwhelmed by the win, that I couldn’t actually get the words out, and had to let my wife read the letter herself!  Really in that moment, life had changed for us forever.

This win now gives us options and the first thing for us is to take a long overdue holiday with hopefully many more to come! We also hope to be able to make a difference in the lives of our friends and family by giving them the opportunity to take a holiday when they need it most.  This win has been a true blessing for us and we want to be able to share that.

Lottery 173, Bribie Island Winner Story

By | Latest News, News, Winner Stories

Our Prize Home draws generate a lot of excitement and Lottery 173, a beautiful home at Pacific Harbour Bribie Island was no exception.

Unfortunately our winner, Mr A from Chandler in Brisbane wasn’t available to take our call so we left a cryptic message and waited patiently for him to call back.

Within the hour, Mr A had called us back and we managed to give him the good news – and to say he was excited is probably something of an understatement!

“I get a lot of different reactions when I speak to our winners”, said Kerry Clifford SLS Fundraising Strategy Manager. “From tears to cheers, disbelief and the occasional swear word, I think I have probably heard it all so far” she said laughing.

And Mr A was no exception – although he did take a little convincing. “I’m just a regular guy with a normal job and was certainly not expecting to receive this kind of call. I was at work so I couldn’t get to my phone but when I heard the message later something told me that this was going to be a good call to return” Mr A said.

And it certainly was a good call because Mr A found out he had suddenly become an instant millionaire by winning a stunning prize home plus, because he was a Champions Club member, he also received gold bullion, bringing his total first prize to $1,007,040.

“I have always been happy to support Surf Life Saving because of the terrific work that they do – in fact people probably take them for granted because they are always there. I have a couple of children and I really appreciate knowing that there is someone on the beach to keep an eye on us all” Mr A said.

So what does the future hold for our lucky winner? “Well, the kids and I will spend some time in the house and after that, I really don’t know. What I do know is, life has certainly improved for the better!”

Congratulations Mr A – we hope you enjoy your prizes and thank you for being a Champions Club member.
